Meet Taha Shaikh & Sarjil Mansuri

Taha Shaikh

Born and raised in Edison for 19 years, I am a proud product of the Edison School District, having attended its schools from Pre-K all the way through high school. My educational journey in this community laid a strong foundation for my academic and professional aspirations. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at Rutgers University with a dual major in Business Analytics & Information Technology (BAIT) and Supply Chain Management, driven by a passion for data-driven decision-making and efficient global operations…

Sarjil Mansuri

A lifelong resident of Edison for 33 years, I am a proud graduate of John P. Stevens High School and Stevens Institute of Technology, where I earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. Currently working as a Pharmaceutical Engineer, I’ve built both my personal and professional life in this community. Important Issues for Column 1

Tackling Overcrowding

As Edison continues to grow, our schools are welcoming more students than ever. Classroom sizes have increased significantly, and temporary solutions such as trailer classrooms are being used. We must implement sustainable solutions that address overcrowding without raising taxes for our community.

Introducing Competitive Specialization Programs

Students can join 2- or 4-year specialty tracks — programs like those at Piscataway High that have already proven successful. These tracks provide tailored courses that prepare students for college, professional careers, and skilled trades, equipping them with the knowledge and experience to thrive after graduation. Tracks include Cybersecurity, Business, Pre-Medical, Auto Technician, and Carpentry/Construction, with electives and classes already offered at the high school.

Expanding our Dual Enrollment Program

Expanding dual enrollment opportunities will give students the chance to earn college credits while still in high school. This not only saves families thousands of dollars in future tuition costs but also makes students more competitive candidates for college admissions and the job market—graduating with both advanced coursework and real-world readiness

Expanding our Facilities & Affordability

Some of our schools lack proper air conditioning, making classrooms uncomfortable during extreme temperatures. Additionally, students shouldn’t hesitate to participate in after-school clubs, competitions, or programs due to participation fees. Investing in our facilities and supporting these programs ensures that all students have a safe, comfortable environment and equal opportunities to succeed.
